I used polymeric between paver stones and it didn't last all all. It was no match against the weeds growing back.
Not convincing. It is expensive.
This keeps weeds out for maybe a few years, but, eventually they will come back. Unless you redo this every few years.

Don't use Sika Flex I have used extensively and after about five years it shrinks just use silicon rubber in the last lifetime but sick of Flex becomes a nightmare.
Avoid picturing the backer rod when placing in the crack. It can cause the caulk to bubble.
Fiskars makes a really nice hand edging tool that gets weeds out of cracks amazingly. It's a lot like the paint scraper though.
Grinder with a round flat wire brush will clean that in 1min.
You do know if you fill that gap with salt about 2 – 4 times per year it will never grow weeds.
Costs about $2 a year…………………………….
just use a reciprocating saw to make shorr work of removing the weeds

Polymeric sand is not permanent. I have a paver patio in my backyard. When my neighbor built his house next door, the earth moving operations & the wind must have blown weed seeds over the fence into my yard, because now its a total mess & will probably have to tear them out & reset the pavers.
Great video! We had weeds and nutsedge growing in between all our driveway expansion joints. Fought them for years. Our driveway has 20 expansion joints. Wide for 3-car garage. We used the backer rod and Sika 2 years ago and haven't been disappointed. There are a couple of places were a weed might peek its little head, but that's b/c we didn't caulk that area properly. Wish we'd known about your sand overlay trick – that would have been perfect! Thanks for explaining everything so well. Much appreciated.

Fill it with salt
I use oscillating multi-tool and worn out blades for cutting, better and faster than hand tools. Those leveling compound could be pricey with a larger project, I had success with stucco/fiber mix. Not much expansion/contraction like the levering compounds but much cheaper, so far so good.
Polymeric sand is NOT a permanent solution. My application on cement block pavers lasted only for 1 season.

nice ob if you have an american driveway made out of concrete with just a few gaps. i have a paved driveway with about a thousand gaps and in each gap something grows wich really sucks. greetings from germany 😀
I did 19 pallets of pavers with polymeric sand and while it did turn out great and we love it, we still get weeks growing up from time to time. The problem is the ground moves and the polymeric sand does not. It sets hard and crumbles if there is movement in the pavers. And our concrete driveway also has many expansion joints and they all over over time. So I'm going with the Sika and wash sand on the top. Thanks for the video.

Bleach and water
I spray my driveway with a mixture of several concentrated killers and it only lasts about 3 months then the grass and weeds grow again. I need napalm.
Peeing on the weeds , will kill them too
Both products are not inexpensive, but if one wants not to address the weed in the pavement cracks, it may be worth the expense, and the work of removing the weeds first.
After pouring the concrete why don't they just fill in the cracks with more concrete?
You lost me at "Sidewalks".
You could just use regular sand since the sealant is already stick and sand will stick to it.
With pavers there was nothing to adhere to so sand is more easily washed away.
I have an acre property! If I was to start scraping with a screwdriver I would be here for the next 20 years! That is NOT a solution!
