Ah, the BRK 86RAC.
My grandparents had the Kidde Worry Free in the bedroom where the security panel was in their old house. Before, there was a Lifesaver F900D. Same in the Hallway. The hallway smoke alarm was replaced with a Kidde Smoke and Co that is like this alarm but different a little before they replaced it.

I have the same old detector at my grandparent's house, It's in each bedroom
I bought a Kidde smoke + CO detector. No wires, and no way to install onto the old receptacle. Frustrating!

i have to change mine too. i bought the kidde direct wire 120v pro series. My question is this; to i have to change all the wiring Inside or can i just plug in the new smoke alarm into the old plug that is hanging off the wall ?

Turn off power to the whole house? What a nonsensical suggestion. If a person can't even figure out what circuit everything in their house is on, they should not be interacting with their home wiring at all and instead call a pro, who by the way, WON'T turn power to the whole house off!
Have to replace mine tomorrow…unfortunately I bought the standard one..didn't realize they had one with a 10 year lithium battery.. anyhow, thanks for this.. will keep this in mind tomorrow (and I'll remember to turn off the power 🙂 )
