How to fix slow retracting seat belt

Have a slow retracting or lazy seat belt? My ’89 Toyota Corolla was slow and so I thought I’d see what I could do about it. Turns out it is pretty easy.

  1. Thank you!! This was a great help for my 92 Xtra cab truck 👍

  2. how to rewound the springs inside?

  3. Hello The pyro sensor in the seat belt pretensioner could be bad. Most likely need to replace the seat belt pretensioner. You can buy a used one on http://www.eBay.com
or send your seat belt for repair at http://www.myairbags.com

  5. I wish you could walk me through this. I’m stuck while trying to fix mine. Helpful video though! I’m going to try again tomorrow.

  6. I just watched American pie again and I was hoping this guy would say something about the sherminator.

  7. You're talking about steps which you are not showing, this is not educational or helpful, it's like showing someonew how to make a pizza but all you do is spread tomato sauce on the base and then you pull out a premade pizza and say "that was easy!"

  8. if you have ever seen the impact on a seat belt at 100+ kmph. stuff that. for the sake of a couple of hundred dollars just replace it!

  9. Just like a Pull start on a motor

  10. Excellent video – great narration, camera work and solid tips.

  11. I agree with Trailbound, I rewound over and over to see how I missed it, you did not show how to rewind the spring

  12. Well done. I would have expected it to be hardened grease and not the belt itself being dirty. I cannot imagine why a dirty belt would not wound properly, any ideas on how this works?

  13. The 3-second shot of the "results" look just as loose and dangly as the seatbelt was before needlessly dismantling it. And I've only just begun researching the topic, but as far as I'm aware, these are factory calibrated safety parts that you shouldn't be randomly fiddling with unless you have some knowledge of proper operating specs. Just pull the belts as far as you're able and scrub them without taking your car apart next time.

  14. anyone else cringing at him putting metal tools directly on the paint?? I would first suggest pulling out the seat belt and dunking it in hot water with some laundry detergent first before trying to take out the whole component first! If you can not put it back together you will have to pay some one to fix it, or due without a seatbelt!

  15. Any idea how to wind it up when I cant pull the belt through? The shaft is too narrow for the end..

  16. Thank you. You did a good job in this video staying on topic, keeping your ego out of it, and in presenting your camera work. Your speaking skills are normal for an untrained person (as in radio training) but you get the message across well enough to transfer the knowledge, so "good job" there. I do agree the missing part of tightening the spring is kind of disturbing, but my spring work has several times slipped and I had to rewind the whole thing. (Training in not cussing while working.) I appreciate this video and it is very helpful: I can go do it on my 2002 Chevy S10. Again, thank you for your effort.

  17. I going to try this on my 94 Toyota truck. SOunds like an easy fix, thanks for the video.

  18. Best solution is to pull belt all the way lock it out (by giving it a quick pull just before it winds all the way out) then don't let it wind back in and clean it with a silicone based cleaner such as furniture polish, then let it wind back.

  19. Wash seat belt? Really? I buy it, try now sell me another BS.

  20. Personally, I prefer a previous video; the guy shared that Washing the dirty seat belt will remedy a slow or non-retracting seat belt, and many many people swear by his method….

  21. ….Otherwise: This is a job for a good boyfriend ! Emphasis on 'good'.

  22. Oh maaaan
You need a ton of communication skills
    Your video really sucks

We really learned a lot from you you dummy??

I suggest you better make your all next videos silent.
    Just don't talk

  23. i have watched a few videos on this subject, and yours has convinced me to just wash it in situ….thanks…i cannot be bothered with all that bollocks

  24. I have seen some folks simply pull the belt 'all the way out' and simply wash all that 'comes out.' Since the potion that does not 'come out' has always been protected – maybe there is no need to wash the entire belt.

  25. "Many have dismantled the seat belt assembly to try to fix the seat belt not going back in and retracting, but this is not recommended since the system is calibrated from the factory and should not be tampered with."

  26. it's not that perfect now but much much better. thanks! so annoying problem when the seatbelt just hangs and no retraction applied ugh..

  27. Great video. I'm gonna try and tackle my 19 year old Honda's seatbelt retraction(or lack there of)

  28. you skiped the critical part WTF??

  29. This is an awesome video. Unfortunately it is only so good and the older the car the weaker the spring even after winding it up.

  30. Good video, well explained.. But.. I forgot to hold it when I pulled the belt as it was particularly stubborn and I heard a very fast unwinding sound. What should I do now? ._.

  31. This looks way too simplistic to be safe….
