How to fix rust, prime and repaint your car

I take you through fixing rust on my 99 A3; with how to convert rust, prime and spray/blend back into the paint work.

One thing not covered in the video is using filler to fill the pitting, I was happy with my end result but this is perhaps another step I could of followed to make sure the levels were 100% right.

  2. Are u not supposed to put primer before paint and after. Am jist tryn learn am not qualified in any way just that exact problem I have , rusu between my door panels the holes not expelling the water and need to treat cos rust has appeared badly ?? Does this mean an going neet to take inside panel of so can treat both sides and get my rust prevention paint on it and maybe add another few drain holes . Thanks

  3. ThanX for sharing yOur knowledge man!…your a Man with an Awesome jOb!

  4. Would you use a self-etching primer for this job instead a zinc one used in the video?

  5. Krust is phosphoric acid which bonds with the steel. You should not disturb it afterwards but apply primer directly on top. A scratch can just break the coating and undo what was done. you may as well have just used the zinc etch primer.

  6. What's the Zinc Etch Primer product that you have used? Do you still recommend this product?

  7. What is the tool your using?

  8. Does the paint fill in the scratches from sanding and can I use 2000 grit to blend it? That is what I already have.

  9. Uh oh you didn't put clear coat on your door

  10. Primer should be dry sanded to 180 for good adhesion. Your trying to make it smooth to the touch. You want the coats to have something to grab. The end result is good but it might chip off from lack of adhesion.

  11. Should i pass a metal brush grinder wheel before passing my 120 grid sanding head

  12. why not coat more of the bare metal with the Krust? nice video, thanks.

  13. How will it look in a year or two ?

  23. Nice job mate. I'm assuming the slight difference in finish between the paint sprayed on and the original paint (which had been on the car for a few years I assume) would be minimised by polishing the car? If so, how long after painting would you leave the car before polishing it? Thanks

  24. Very helpful. However, after taking off the tape/masked area, you can where I've painted. Its left a straight line. Any advice please?
