My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/

I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

  1. Like others have mentioned die electric grease is made for these electrical contacts, electricity will flow and this stuff will protect. The wire brush will work and sometimes some sandpaper (like 220 grit) will clean these contacts too. A small file set is handy for this stuff too. Used to sell this stuff when I worked in automotive retail. Glad you able to fix it!

  2. Those are called "weather pack relays" The rubber gasket is water resistant but not to submerged. Be sure to mount them with the connector facing down. Also, pack some dielectric grease or silicon grease in any open ports of socket. You didn't give a good look at the bottom side. I suggest a very handy tool I use daily in my job as an automotive master tech and have for years. It is called a POWER PROBE. This tool is a DC test device that not only will show you voltage or ground on connections or where ever you probe it will show ground and will allow you to provide a ground and or battery voltage to a device. This can save many headaches of attempting to sort electrical issues in DC systems like boats cars. Two connections to the battery posts. I believe it will even do up to 36volt dc systems. You can determine blown fuses, bad devices, if a charger isn't working onboard. Just don't test any 120v house type stuff.

  3. As I always tell friends and family, if you're thinking about getting a boat, start a sinking fund! BTW, that was some awesome honkin' blues for a Wrigleyville kid! 😆

  4. b sure and put some dielectric grease down in the relays before plugging them back up.

  5. Pull those relays back out and put dielectric grease in connection. It will make the connection more waterproof.

  6. Check out the welding section at Lowe's. They make small stainless steel brushes that will work nicely.

  7. Great video Matt. I never understood why so many pros just go pick the boat up from being rigged… if I was fishing at your level I would want to be there the whole time.
This is one sport where you can lose by not being able to fix or troubleshoot a problem quickly. It sucks to have a winning bag and you’re dead in the water an hour away from the launch.

  8. Next time try using Fluid Film and either a small water brush or featured alcohol and cotton swaps to clean the small contacts. Food for thought.

  9. Nice when it's a quick and easy fix like that.
I'm curious, what Jack plate do you have on that boat? I'm thinking about something similar this coming spring.

  10. Put some dielectric grease on those terminals and you’ll probably forget how you fixed them before you need to do it again lol

  11. Matt, the background music is awesome, good video buddy

  12. They have that liquid electric tape. You put it back together and dip it in that let it dry an you good to go a lot of connections on the fire trucks have and all them up north give it

  13. Good video Matt glad it worked sometimes you hunt and hunt

  14. Deoxit is great for cleaning corrosion from contacts and use dielectric grease in all your connections including trailer light bulbs and you will have integrity & dependability in your boat & trailer.

  15. Electrical issues are the worst in the boat, car or home.

  16. Great catch on your problem. Great music to go with the video.

  17. I’d kill for a boat like that. Very nice!

  18. Matt, those are relays. They swap the current from positive to negative depending on what command you give it. Both of them have to be good for it to operate either way. There not expensive. Get you two new ones and keep at least one in your boat just in case.

  19. Man I have all sorts of things to say about that whole situation but I don't think it will all fit in the comments section!! From the rigging, down to you using a wire brush and not knowing if you unhooked the battery before work was done!!??🤦

  20. Who rigged the boat ,besure to give them a plug on a youtube video! NOT😂😊

  21. Did you get out at all to fish Cisco lakes for late season smallmouth? Latest in season I've ever fished. Had some absolutely phenomenal days in water temps on deep clear lakes all the way down to 41 degrees.

  22. Nice fix Matt. If it were mine, I would still get a couple of spare relays just in case the water got into the originals. Relays are not too expensive either.

  23. Well, I named you the tackle tinkerer. But I think that you are just a plain tinkerer. 😂 Congratulations on the success of the trim switch.

  24. Matt you need to put some dielectric grease on those contacts.

  25. Mechanic’s dream. Fixing something the first attempt. 😂😂😂

  26. 🍺Thanks Matt. Glad it worked for now.

  27. Protip. From a guy thats had ob jets for 20 yrs. If your going to buy a jet rig. Get a boat with a tunnel. Set motor. Carry on

  28. Way off today’s topic, I want to build my next rod. I need a heavy swim bait/glide bait rod. Do you have a recommendation from Mud Hole?

  29. Thanks Matt , Sorry to say It won't last, Just replace the relays and harness.
