This is how you fix most toilets that won’t stop running.
It is more than likely that the flapper isn’t sealing properly. It gets a little more complicated (and the video would be a lot longer) if it is the float valve, so you should start by swapping out the flapper.

Ok, but when I turn off the water to the toilet it starts to leak out of the valve onto the floor. Do I replace that valve too? How do I do that?

So my toilet’s flapper does not stay open long enough to drain the bowl. I replaced the flapper and the new one has a weight. I can not figure out the length of the chain with the weight so the flapper closes too fast. Help!
Dude! I watched this video years ago but tonight I had a running toilet in a residents room I care for and maintenance doesn’t get in until tomorrow, I remembered this video and took a look in the tank to see if I could figure it out and I did! Hey Dad, how do I fix the toilet making noise? The toilet is making a loud noise when it is flushing. Sounds like a banging sound. So I nearly closed the water valve so that It could have low water pressure while it is filling the water tank. Now it doesn't make the noise. But it takes a couple of minutes to fill the tank. Could you help how to fix?
