How To Install RIVNUTS || FULL DIY TUTORIAL || How To Install Nutserts & Nutrivets using RIVNUT GUN

Hey Guys and Gals!

In this video I show you exactly how to use a Rivnut Gun to install nutserts into a metal panel. In this demonstration I show you exactly how to setup your Rivnut gun with the correct mandrel and nose pieces and use the correct nutsert for the job at hand.

For my demonstration I am using the Kincrome Nutsert gun to instal the nutrivets into the metal panel. There are a lot of different types of rivnut kits and you will need to select one depending on the application. For automotive installations a smaller kit with the compact rivnut gun may be better for those tight locations. For larger rivnuts you can select the heavy duty rivnut gun and kit to install the larger nutserts.

To install a rivnut follow this procedure –
1. Select item you are wanting to mount
2. Locate a good spot with a flat metal surface 1-2mm thick
3. select the correct size rivnut and bolt for your item
4. select the correct size drill bit for your rivnut
5. drill pilot hole in panel
6. drill out hole to correct size
7. deburr hole and touch up with rust resistant paint
8. assemble rivnut gun by correct size mandrel and nose piece
9. install rivnut onto end of gun
10. fit rivnut into panel and squeeze to secure into panel
11. thread in rod and squeeze more to ensure fully secured
12. unwind threaded rod and remove rivnut gun
13. ensure rivnut is now secured in panel correctly
14. secure accessory or item onto panel and tighten.
15. All done ! to easy 🙂

That is the basic procedure for using a rivnut gun to install nutserts into a panel. This method works for all metal panels between the thicknesses of 1-2mm. Any larger and the rivnut may not secure correctly.

This video is a full DIY tutorial on rivnut gun kits and shows you a lot of tips and tricks to ensure you can easily do it yourself. By using a rivnut we can easily secure items without the need for tech screws. This means that we wont have to worry about corrosion or the item falling off down the track. Tech screws are a really rough way of installing accessories into vehicles and something that I don’t recommend.

Nut rivets are known by a few different names –
1. Nutserts
2. Rivet Nuts
3. Rivnuts
4. Nut Rivet

There are a lot of different Rivnut kits on the market, they all work under the same principle but the quality just differs between brands. There is also a lot of different types on nutserts. Some have the locking teeth on the side of the rivnut and some have it on the head of the rivnut. You can also buy packets of the different rivnuts when you run out.

If you are wondering how to install Rivnuts then this video will give you the confidence to carry out the job yourself. Rivnuts can be used on your vehicle, boat or even around home. The rivnuts are made from stainless steel so they never rust and will be reliable for a long time.

  2. Thank you for a brilliant tutorial on rivnuts. I have trouble squeezing the gun so now I will try again. Thanks "How to Nick"

  3. Americans prefer rivets and related types of fasteners because they come out of a gun.

  4. Good informative video. But it doesn't mention there are steel rivets and aluminium rivets. Make sure that you use a rivet tool that can handle the steel ones. Also be careful not to overcrimp them to prevent damage to the tool. Especially with the smaller threads. 👍
