How To Install Your Nest Doorbell With Existing Chime Wires

The battery-powered #NestDoorbell lets you see what’s happening at your door and answer it from anywhere.* And with intelligent alerts, you’ll only get notified about what matters most to you.

How to set up your Nest Doorbell:

1. Start the setup in the Google Home app by adding your Nest Doorbell and scanning the QR code on the back of the device.
2. Connect your device to your home Wi-Fi and bring outside. The Nest Doorbell will light up green when it connects. You’ll want to make sure you have a strong connection where you’re installing the device.
3. For safety, turn off the power to your old doorbell and chime via your home electricity breaker box.
4. Remove the old doorbell and secure the Nest Doorbell base plate on the wall with the screws provided.
5. Feed the wires through the base plate and use the provided wire connectors to connect the wires together.
6. Push wires back into the wall and clip Nest Doorbell into the base plate. You will hear a click when it’s secure.
7. Turn the power back on. Once on, your Nest Doorbell should start recording live video.
8. Finish your Nest Doorbell setup by following along with the Google Home app.

*Some features, including mobile notifications, remote control, video streaming, and video recording, require working internet and Wi-Fi.

September Description Update: Nest Doorbell (battery) requires the Google Home app and a Google Account – it’s not compatible with the Nest app or the home.nest.com site.

  1. I hear the coil vibrating of the chime when the bell is not ringed . Can I do something against this ?
Placing a small resistor in between ?

  2. Attaching the doorbell to the mount is a little difficult but once it locks into place it seems extremely sturdy. https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxxHZwMa8CsRjYhf9s4W8w0Dwm47uytWOp I replaced my regular doorbell with this and hard wired it in, using my existing wires and mechanical chime. It works perfect so far and integrates perfectly with my blink camera system. It also works seamlessly with Alexa

  3. Doesn't work with the Nest App, nice one guys smh

  4. You didn't cover the new chime connector, it's different than the old and you don't have a set up video

  5. Can all nest doorbell (battery) be installed with a wired connection? Thks

  6. My doorbell uses a resistor across the two wires, will I need to add the resistor to the the Nest Ring Doorbell?

  7. Do I keep taking it out when I need to charge it? Or does it charge while being hooked up?

  8. Is there a way to receive notifications through the google home app when the doorbell is pushed?

  9. can you just plug a usb c cable to the top and can you ring the chime

  10. For the three hour history, is it threee continuous hours. Or is it three hours of activity being triggered, so in theory the three hours could be over a span of several days?

  11. Is this installation for wired and battery one i am little confused

  12. Finally got this to work but the “instructions” provided and process is terrible and must be oriented to someone who will only pay an installer to deal with the frustrations. You need two different screwdriver sizes if the wedge is used (and probably should be the default). There are no printed instructions so one has to jump back and forth between these either somnambulant videos or peer at them microscopically on a phone. The setup options want you to commit to all sorts of upsells and connections before even determining if the device is working properly or not. The wiring and screws is tiny and fiddly and not a good fit for many older houses. The whole thing should be an embarrassment to Google. Just packaging this crap in an over-engineered box does not make for an Apple like experience (also, the charging cable was left out of our box). Think twice before buying this for a self-installation.

  13. Does the original chime still chime?

  14. My transformer is a 16V 10VA – the camera and doorbell work. Why do I need one that is max power 40VA?

  15. Why did the red and white wires become both white all of a sudden? Does it matter which wire I connect to the left screw in the back of the doorbell?

  16. can you send me an amazon link for the transformer that is compatible with this product?

  17. Do you offer an official wedge mount for lap vinyl siding to keep the camera from pointing up? Competing doorbell brands offer one but don't see an accessory offering from Google

  18. I have a transformer but it has more power than 40Va will that work ? The voltage can be adjusted anywhere between 12 to 24 V

  19. I initially installed mine to be battery powered, but how do I change it so I can use it wired instead?
