How To Fix Reversed Hot and Cold | Delta Shower Valve

Delta (RP46074) 13/14 Series Valve: https://amzn.to/2NneVa1
I had this issue in a past home for years and never took the time to fix the issue. With the Delta Shower Valve the fix should be quick and easy. This video will demonstrate on a Delta RP46074 Shower Cartridge valve which is the most common valve found in Delta single handle fixtures since 2007.

  1. Right now my water is crossing
So when I turn off the hot from outside and I turn on the faucet I’m still getting water on both sides
So when I turn on the hot on the sink it’s flowing slowly, I leave it running and turn on the shower faucet and as soon as I do so the one on the sink almost stop flowing

  2. Hey guys! Is it possible to do this WITHOUT turning off the water? I can’t get in to the main house to turn off the water

  3. I just remodeled my baths and my master bath was backwards(hot to the right). I was so pissed that I thought they did my plumbing backwards. I was about to tear down the rear wall to access the plumbing. Thanks for posting this video.

  4. I don't understand how flipping the valve can change hot water to cold without switching the pipes internally.

  5. Thank you. My brand new shower was finally finished and the plumber screwed this up. I was so upset thinking that I was going to have to bust through the brand new tiled wall or be stuck with it forever.

  6. THANK YOU for saying "7/64" allen wrench!!! Others don't say it and it's VERY helpful when it's all plugged in with Calcium! Cheers!

  7. Notes to self:
    1:02 7/64 allen wrench
    4:40 how to adjust LIMITER

  8. Thanks for your helpful video. I fixed my bathtub leak with a shower cartridge valve. It started to leak again when the handle suddenly popped off. I know now that I didn't tighten the screw on the handle tight enough because I didn't use the right Allen
wrench. Do you think that can also cause a leak?

  9. Thanks for the tip. What do you suggest to do if the screw is stuck and you can't unscrew with the allen wrench? I used CLR liquid to remove Limescale and then I sprayed with WD40 but still it's stuck. Any suggestions?

  10. I can’t get the last part off 😭😭😭😭

  11. You are the greatest. Thank you.

  12. Just finished doing this 5 minutes ago following your simple directions. Thank you for the video.

  13. Thanks for this because you save me some money

  14. For anyone that has a limiting adapter on their version (just under the knob), you may not need to take the bonnet ring off. I went to do mine today because the hot and cold were reversed and the bonnet ring is essentially welded on due to old age and hard water corrosion. Tried heat. Tried vinegar. Tried WD40. Tried notching the ring and using a hammer and screwdriver. Nope. I almost admitted defeat and that I'd have to cut the bonnet ring off completely and replace it. As I was putting everything back together, it took me a few attempts to get the limiter adapter on before screwing the handle back on. I discovered there was a range of Off -> Hot -> Cold -> Off -> Cold -> Hot if I turned the handle across its full range. I simply set the limiter to catch on the Off -> Cold -> Hot range instead of where it was set previously of Off -> Hot -> Cold and bingo, it's all fixed.

  15. Thank you. You are the only person that mentioned that O ring, so I would know where it goes.

  16. In some cases it can be even much simpler than this. If you (or someone before you) has removed the knob to clean it, the inner valve stem may be inadvertently turned 45° or 90°, and this will reverse the direction. If your valve is one that you pull to turn on and then turn to change the temperature, you can set the Hot-Cold position by removing the knob (usuallt pry off the cap gently, and remove one screw) then turn the inner valve 45° or 90° and replace the knob. No turning off the water, draining pipes or disassembling any sealed components.

  17. This was great to confirm the change we made should've worked, but it didn't. Our new valve doesn't have an H on it. We tried one way then the other, but still the hot comes on first. This was not the case with old valve. We did have to buy a non-delta valve since no one had a delta. Anyway, should work the same right? Any ideas 💡? Thanks!

  18. Never done this before and succeeded with your help. Thank you! And to those rookies like me, please TURN OFF the main water valve. I got splashed everywhere!

  19. brief and to the point. Best video on the subject. One thing I noticed. The triangular protrusions on opposite sides of your cartridge slide easily and all the way into corresponding triangular notches on the sides of the sleeve of the valve body. when I try to do the same the cartridge stops 1/8 " short of sliding into the triangular notches. When I install the threaded ring and tighten it I have to use plumbers pliers. Cannot turn the ring by hand. Also cannot get only hot water. It comes in mix with cold. I did turn the temperature adjuster fully now left now right, with Minimal difference.Reinstalled the old cartridge and got only hot or only cold or mix of the two. But can't keep the old cartridge. It leaks.

  20. Another reason to stick with Delta on some things,, especially shower valves. Delta has gotten cheaper on some things like all of them, but you can get replacement parts. Not so on Glacier Bay or Pfizer. Moen is ok with warranties. I have a Moen Kitchen nozzle that keeps breaking inside that switches rom spray to regular. But getting them on the phone to look for replacement is impossible. I think this one's discontinued -likemost products these days.

  21. Mines doesn't HAVE a screw of take of the lever……I've watched hundreds of videos…

  22. What if it switches and it shuts off in different places all the time and sometimes the hot is on the left and sometimes it's on the right?

  23. Would this also work on a kitchen sink faucet? The hot and cold are reversed and a Flow motion sensor faucet. Thanks!

  24. Really helpful, thank you!

  25. Like others here…I was allready planning my next Saturday reversing the plumbing. It took 5 minutes now I'm no to the next thing – thanks!!

  26. H should have been on the hot side to begin with……..

  27. You deserve a medal. No one else has mentioned a 7/64 Allen wrench. At the very least, It is a beginning when you go to the hardware store. A towel to cover the drain is always a good reminder.
